To be modern means to understand that the world, including the world of culture and arts, is not split – it is integrated. Each creative discipline is just a small fragment of a huge mosaic. Therefore the Institute of Modern Arts (ISI) has established and realizes a system of in-depth liberal education as the base of any creative activity. History of culture, religions, philosophy, literature are taught here "synchronized and integrated". In a word, it is a way to help students feel like in a circular panorama, that brightly and in detail reconstructs an epoch they read about. To be modern does not mean to throw away and tread down everything that was done, found, comprehended before, and to believe smugly that everything begins with you.

At Acting Faculty , for example, both teachers and students are convinced adherents of Russian psychological theater. And Stanislavsky system is for them not old stuff. Traditionally? Modern? The spectators will judge. Responses of spectators on festivals of diploma dramas' like "Podium", "Debut", "Ayr mercies" show that the Faculty has the future. The Institute does its best to get rid of "straight-line" and "industrial" methods in education. The individual, "hand made" approach to the student is value. In the good old days master taught his apprentice to become artist often without words and lectures, "simply" embodying together his idea …

The same principle underlies the work in ISI. The future film directors and TVproducers took part in shooting TV series of Russian people's artist L.Pchelkin "The mysteries of Petersburg", "Salome" and film of the honored artist of the Russian Federation V.Rubinchik "Cinema about cinema" and many others.

In their diploma and term papers artists and designers work with real tasks on organizing environment, interiors, creating corporate identity – also together with their teachers. Here is the first obvious success – students of Design Faculty annually become winners of all-Russia competitions for designers like "Clockwork orange" or "Step to the third Millennium", etc.

Creative work of directors and managers of mass performances is organizing festivals: on the streets, squares, in architectural ensembles, on river banks or lakes … During these 17 years together with their master - winner of the State award, Prof. E.Vandalkovskiy - they produced more than 30 mass events.
And as it is important now to master knowledge quickly and actively, ISI trains "to swim not ashore, but in deep water".

Future TV journalists make stand - alone reports, interviews, news – at least 2-3-dozens creative works in semester; work on professional TV and radio channels (NTV, RTR, TVC, "Radio Russia", "Capital town" and others); participate in creative competitions and reviews. For example, on festival "Festos", competition of students works, our students regularly win prize-winning places.

It looks like the life of our vocalists (both academical and pop singers) is a continuous creative competition – starting from intrafaculty to the most prestigious, including "Factory of stars", "National actor" and many international reviews. Students learn at the Faculty not just good singing. They should be able "to hold blow" in a hard competition, to seek and find their place under the sun.

Andchoreographers – also have their peculiarity: they bring up their own students on preparation division. Graduates work in Kremlin ballet, Chamber ballet "Moscow", State theater of classical ballet, fall into the line with the teachers of the Institute.

… … We hope and believe that the 19 years have not been in vain. At least because our students decipher ISI as Institute of Shaping Individuality!
